Network Interface Controller (NIC) Card is a Physical Layer or Layer 1 in OSI Model. This card is very rared mention in any articles as its real name as "NIC" Card even in PC it is labeled as Network Adapter A.K.A Network Card that some people used to rename it. But, what worst if you go to the Computer shop the PC Technicians always call it LAN card because that is their teacher taught them during their school days in college and please do not argue, why? Because they don't have a formal education. Although, it is accepted as they call it LAN Card just to make it simple and to make it understand to a non-techie person.
This tutorial will guide step-by-step on how-to Do-It-Yourself installing the Network Interface Controller (NIC) Card driver A.K.A. LAN card.
Windows XP
Step 1. Click Start Menu, Setting and then Control Panel.
Step 2. In Control Panel double click or open System/System Properties.
Step 3. In the System Properties Click Hardware and also the Device Manager.
Step 4. The Device Manager is the information of all Hardware that is present in your PC whether it is properly installed or not.
Figure 1.0 shows that the Network Interface Card (NIC) Card or the Network Adapter is not present, please click the monitor icon and it will scan the undetected hardware it sometime to locate any device.

Step 4. Installing the Network Interface Controller (NIC) Card or Network Adapter driver, click to highlight the Ethernet Controller and right click then select update driver. Another windows/screen will prompt.
Step 5. Select "Yes, this time only" and click Next to continue.
Step 6-A. If your Network Inferface Controller (NIC) Card or Network Adapter came with an installation CD follow this step and click Next to continue.
Step 6-B. If your Network Inferface Controller (NIC) Card or Network Adapter came without an installation CD follow this step you need to download the driver from the manufacturer site and click Next to continue. Another window/screen will prompt.
Step 7. After downloading the driver of the NIC/Network Adapter. Tick "include this location in the search" similar to this screenshot below and click Browse to locate the appropriate driver.
After locating the appropriate driver in your PC local drive, click OK to continue.

Continue to load Network Adapter driver, wait until it finish.
Network Interface Controller(NIC) Card completed the driver installation.
The Network Interface Controller (NIC) Card or the Network Adapter is properly installed in the system without error.
